PASTORAL ADVISORY COUNCIL

Pastoral Council

Purpose:

The Pastoral Council is the visionary and planning body for the pastoral and spiritual concerns of the parish. The council does not make final decisions. Instead, the main charism (gift) of the pastoral advisory council is to participate in communal discernment leading to a consensus which furthers the vision, mission, and value statements of the parish. Furthermore, they serve as a consultative body to the pastor making recommendations to him that would lead to the accomplishment of parish goals consistent with the vision, mission, and value statements of the parish.

Responsibilities:

To lead and coordinate the annual parish pastoral planning, goals, and objectives.

Gifts to share:

All planning in the parish begins with prayers and under the guidance of God’s Spirit. Therefore, pastoral advisory members must have the willingness to pray and reflect with others, along with the ability to respectfully communicate and to see the scope of the parish mission.

Commitment:

Members are required to attend monthly meetings so that they might effectively discern plans leading to the accomplishment of parish goals. If the need arises, the pastor might call an extraordinary meeting. Furthermore, there are times that the pastor might wish to consult the members of the council through other methods of communication, such as phone calls, letters, or email.
